Kiteboarding Control Bars & Kiteboarding Lines
Otherside Boardsports is the place to find all of your kiteboarding lines and kiteboarding bars. Chicken loops, leader lines, bridles, donkey dicks, kite leashes and so on. Be sure to check the condition of your kiteboarding lines and all your bar parts before you go out. Don't get caught offshore with a broken kite line!
Somewhere between 27 and 30 meters is standard for kitesurfing lines. Shorter kitesurfing lines may make your kite turn faster which is great for those powered kite loops, but you'll reach stronger, cleaner wind with your stock-length Best, Cabrinha or Slingshot kite lines. Accessorize your kitesurfing bar with a stopper ball, bigger or smaller chicken loops, or Cabrinha's quick release leash. We've found that for smaller riders, a smaller chicken loop helps keep the bar closer to the rider, giving them an easier reach to the power / depower strap. And for those riders who are frequently hooking and unhooking, a larger chicken loop can make this process much easier.
Most kites these days are of equal line length, so you can mix and match 30m kiteboarding lines, 27's - get crazy - 15's or maybe you wanna be like Lou with 7m kite lines from Cabrinha and Slingshot. Most of the folks we kitesurf with prefer the black and red color combo kite lines from Best Kiteboarding.
For those new to kiteboarding, kitesurfing lines are what hold you to your kite. If they go, you're session is done, no way around it. When buying used kites the main thing to look for is the condition of the kitesurfing lines. When they start to fray, it's time to replace them. Your kite may last several years, but kite lines take most of the beating, so replacing them once a year is a good maintenance tip to keep you worry-free out on the water. One of the worst ways to end a kite session is a 3 mile swim to shore after your kite lines popped in a heavy gust.
Different kiteboard line lengths show different characteristics. Longer lines will increase the size of the wind window and give your kite more pull, but these longer kite lines take more time to get across the window. Shorter kite lines will loop quicker, change position quicker, but don't have as much space to generate power. The kitesurfing bar also play a role in the characteristics of your kite. This is what you're touching, so like the footstraps, if the bar isn't comfortable, your kite won't feel comfortable.
The North Kiteboarding Flying Lines '07 use a woven mono filament that has less stretch and more control, with a slightly bent concept so the rope becomes stiffer. It's also much easier to lay out the lines. There's also the style of safety and depower that can make a difference. The "below the bar" depower straps like in the Slingshot Kite Bars are great for those shorter armed people that find themselves out of "depower" reach when it counts.
The IDS, Intelligent Depower System from Cabrinha, makes self landing as safe as having a buddy on the beach. Don't be afraid to customize your kiteboard kite with whatever kiteboarding bar you find the best! We'll will make sure you've got the best combination of kiteboarding bars and kiteboarding lines, that's our promise!
Trainer kites make great toys on the sand or snow too. The problem is that these lines aren't made for traction, so start pulling and you start breaking. We can upgrade your Slingshot B-2 or B-3 trainer kiteboarding lines with the beefed up ProFire lines for the extra oomph you need when you're trying to get more than practice out of your trainer.
