“LEGIT”
was the most frequently used word to describe the first annual Green
Grass Wake Jam that went down July 19-20th in Marathon, Florida
Keys. The start pool was a 40 foot long, 18 foot wide green grass
lined monster, with a down-rail and ledge option, and a 5-8 foot
drop (depending on tides). After the drop into the lake, riders
had a choice of an incline-to-flat, compliments of JET PILOT, or
a floating kicker.
Day 1 was strictly wakeskating. Just making the drop proved to be
a challenge, But Kyle Hyams looked pretty comfortable.
Day 2 was for the strappers, with a bunch of the wakeskaters returning
to give it a try with bindings. With a day of wakeskating under
their belts, day two definitely stepped up the confidence and the
competition.
Everyone
that came had an absolute blast. Plans for the next event are already
in the works… Those who came down for the action think that
this event was kick-ass, believe us you have no idea! The grass
is always greener on the oTHErside people, we’re just getting
started!
We want to make sure we get one last heart-filled thank-you in to
all of our sponsors: Jet Pilot, Triton Kiteboarding (it was their
floating slider and kicker), Unique Marine for the enormous pump
to fill the enormous pool, Anarchy Eyewear, Village Gourmet for
the kickass bbq, Devotid Wakeskates, Slingshot for throwing in a
board and bindings that went out as 4th and 5th place prizes (Slingshot
is IT in wakeboarding right now. If you haven’t checked out
their gear you’re missing out), Albert, Alex and Lucas from
“Lights on for Safety” for keeping us jamming, (Albert
Iquierdo is also responsible for 99% of the pictures you’re
seeing. Keep that name in mind when your sponsors want some pics).
Billy at Sir William Inc whose creative stylings are responsible
for the Rider Jerseys, Badass oTHErside skull and cross bone flags,
our entire website design and maintenance, and of course keeping
everyone in the loop with web updates. Also a big thanks to the
guys at Marathon Aqua Ranch for lending us their land. To everyone
that helped out building, transporting, supplying tools, generators,
chairs, tents, winches- without you this would not be possible.
Thanks again, we out.
